What is Reiki

(pronounced ray-kee)

Rei (spirit) Ki (energy) is a gentle, hands-on healing modality employing Universal energy to facilitate healing in the mind, body, and spirit. Reiki was founded in 1922 by Dr. Mikao Usui, of Kyoto Japan, and is used to channel this energy through the practitioner to the client where needed. This transfer activates a natural healing process that restores balance and well-being. It is widely recognized in hospices, maternity wards, and hospitals around the world as it can increase the efficacy of other types of healing. Clinicians recommend it and large health care systems like the Cleveland Clinic utilize and recommend it as part of their integrative care approach.

Intuitive reiki being performed on a woman at The Purple Tulip

Reiki is known for bringing on a meditative state. Through deep relaxation, it frees up stuck and stagnant energy stimulating your body’s immune system, promoting natural self-healing, and relieving pain and tension. It helps to improve sleep, focus, and mood as well as with depression and anxiety. It has even been known to foster tissue and bone healing after an injury or surgery and can aid in the improvement of joint mobility.

Whether your Reiki session is in-person or remote, each is about 50 minutes long. Fully clothed and reclining comfortably, we’ll chat for about 10 to 15 minutes about your concerns and intentions. With palms facing down, I’ll use between 12 and 15 designated hand positions over your energy centers located on the torso, back, head, and legs. With your permission, if images, sensations, or words are channeled, I’ll share these with you for your own interpretation. Following the session, we’ll chat for a final 10 minutes about your experience and next steps.
